Growing number of complaints
In the 3rd quarter of 2012 the ombudsman received a total of 1,864 complaints, which is up 257 complaints compared to the same period last year. The ombudsman noted an increase in the number of cases in relation to public administration – 1,121 cases, 131 more than in the third quarter last year. The number of cases outside the sphere of authority, as defined by the Public Defender of Rights Act, remained at basically the same level (II.Q 2012 [743; 39.9%]; II.Q 2011 [617; 38.4,0%]).
In addition to this, the ombudsman also received 59 complaints related to protection against discrimination. The staff of his office made 11 systematic visits to supervise the restriction of personal freedom. In connection with my powers concerning the monitoring of the detention of foreigners and administrative expulsion procedures the ombudsman received 669 monitoring rulings, while his co-workers carried out 1 escort, during which they monitored administrative expulsion procedures.
In the public administration agenda the ombudsman again received most cases relating to social security – 297, building proceedings and town planning – 97, and administration in the area of employment and labour – 75.
