Institutes for long-term patients

Institutes for long-term patients

Institutes for long-term patients are specialized medical centers the care of which is a continuation of the care provided by hospitals. They provide specialized nursing and rehabilitative care for persons suffering from long-term illnesses. The situation of some patients requires that they be provided psychosocial and social rehabilitative care, not to mention the need of palliative and psychiatric care. The decisive factor for the carrying out of systematic visits in institutes for long-term patients is not that the institute is a part of a hospital or a separate entity, but the dependence of patients on the care provided which constitutes a type of the restriction of freedom.
