Facilities

The Public Defender of Rights performs preventive systematic visits to places/facilities where people restricted in their freedom are or may be confined.

These are:

  • prison facilities, i.e. prisons, remand prisons, preventive detention
  • police cells
  • facilities for the exercise of institutional and protective education, i.e. children’s homes, reformatories, diagnostic institutions.
  • facilities for the detention of foreigners
  • asylum facilities
  • social service facilities, i.e. particularly in-patient social service facilities
  • medical facilities, i.e. particularly mental homes, hospices, institutes for long-term patients
  • facilities for social and legal protection of children, i.e. facilities for children requiring immediate assistance
  • public facilities for the survival of the population in crises
