Death of Otakar Motejl, Czech Ombudsman

With great regret we would like to announce the death of Mr. Otakar Motejl, Public Defender of Rights, who died suddenly after a short illness on Sunday 9 May afternoon in the University Hospital Brno-Bohunice.

Mr Motejl held the post since December 2000 when he was elected the first Czech ombudsman. He was re-elected in 2006.

Public opinion polls regularly showed him as one of the most trusted Czech officials.
